Early Learning Curriculum

Bridge Road Early Learning Centre offers an exceptional curriculum built on evidence-based practices and a deep understanding of early childhood development.

Reggio Emilia

Bridge Road Early Learning Centre is inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, recognising children as curious, capable learners. The Reggio Emilia approach focuses on child-centred play-based learning curriculum, placing a high importance on the role of the learning environment

According to this teaching philosophy, the environment is the child’s ‘third teacher’ and should be accessible, aesthetic, and inclusive. Our environments are carefully designed to spark imagination, exploration, and inquiry, with educators working alongside children to support their individual interests and learning journeys.

We celebrate creativity, collaboration, and the many ways children express their thinking and understanding.

Inquiry-Based Learning

We combine the Reggio Emilia approach with Inquiry-Based Learning, a student-led learning kindergarten curriculum that allows children to be active in their learning journey. This approach encourages children to ask questions, investigate ideas, and follow their natural curiosity, turning everyday moments into powerful learning opportunities.

Rather than simply providing answers and ‘teaching’, our educators support children in discovering solutions through observation, experimentation, and discussion. Whether it’s exploring nature, solving a jigsaw, or creating artwork, children are inspired to explore and find their unique solution

Inquiry-Based Learning helps build critical thinking, creativity, and resilience — skills that are the foundation for lifelong learning. At Bridge Road ELC, we nurture these qualities by creating an environment where wonder is celebrated and every question leads to discovery.

Early Years Learning Framework

Our teaching approach is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) — Australia’s national standard for early childhood education. This framework ensures that every child receives the best start in life through a play-based, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate curriculum.

The EYLF focuses on five key learning outcomes:

  • A strong sense of identity
  • Connection with their world
  • Well-being
  • Confidence as learners
  • Effective communication

We bring this to life through creating meaningful and engaging lessons that foster curiosity, creativity, and social connection. Our educators use evidence-based practices and experience to support each child’s growth while celebrating their individuality, culture, and unique learning style.

Extracurricular Activities

Half the fun happens outside the classroom! Our students are exposed to a variety of extracurricular activities and specialised subjects that develop their social, physical, and emotional skills, as well as their overall well-being.

Literacy

Through storytelling, shared reading, and language-rich activities, our learners develop foundational literacy skills, a love for books, and effective communication. We nurture curious minds and confident speakers.

Science

Hands-on experiments and exploration spark curiosity and encourage children to ask questions about the world around them. Our little scientists discover, investigate, and learn through wonder.

Music and Movement

Children express themselves through rhythm, dance, and song, helping to develop coordination, self-confidence, and a sense of joy. Music and movement sessions are filled with laughter and noise.

Art

Our young artists explore colours, textures, and materials in open-ended ways that encourage imagination and self-expression. These sessions help children communicate their thoughts, feelings, and perspectives.

Cooking

From mixing ingredients to tasting new foods, cooking at Bridge Road ELC builds life skills, sensory awareness, and healthy habits. Children learn about nutrition, teamwork, mindful eating, and the joy of creating something together.

Physical Education

Through fun games, obstacle courses, and outdoor play, children develop gross motor skills, strength, and coordination. Physical education supports not only healthy bodies, but also confidence and adventure.
